About the Project
The Resource Hub has been developed as part of a wider research project, Replanting the Birthing Trees. This innovative, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander-led project aims to support and strengthen parents in achieving their hopes and dreams for a strong, happy, safe and healthy family. Transforming compounding cycles of intergenerational trauma and harm to positively reinforcing cycles of nurturing and recovery. Our attention is on the critical life course transition of a baby’s first 2000 days.
We recognise the need for appropriate, accessible, strength-based and trauma-aware, healing-informed resources which are responsive to the experiences and needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. This website collates trusted resources for community, clinicians and researchers to foster culturally responsive care and strengthen support systems during the early years of childhood.
Community
This section isn’t just for mums and dads, but is useful for anyone in bubs life, like grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends or carers. You can find information on welcoming a child as well as strengthening care for yourself and navigating the tough stuff that can come up during this time.
Clinicians and Practitioners
This section is to support clinicians and practitioners working and walking alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, primarily during the perinatal period. Here you’ll find resources to develop your awareness and understanding across key topics (Trauma and Healing, Culture, History and Truth-telling, Social and Emotional Wellbeing and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Childrearing). As well as practical guidance for supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families at this critical sacred time (Improving personal practice) and creating change within the wider health system (Systems Change). Explore the Community section to find relevant resources to support and strengthen families.
Researchers and Policy Makers
Here you can find key publications in the field of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander maternity and trauma-informed care, as well as guidance on engaging in culturally safe research.
